The Fordham Urban Law Journal is accepting articles and essays for publication in our upcoming Volume 52.3. The Journal publishes themed issues, and Volume 52.3 will focus on the infrastructure related to global sports events — whether it is a new stadium in suburban Virginia or an immense construction project for the Olympic games. The Journal is seeking scholarship related to the urban impact of these endeavors, whether domestically or internationally. Volume 52.3 is slated to publish in March 2025.
The Fordham Urban Law Journal is notable for addressing legal and public policy issues affecting urban populations across the world. The Journal is the second-oldest publication and most-cited specialty journal at Fordham Law School. The Journal is one of the most cited public policy law journals edited by students in the country and is one of the few journals that focuses particularly on urban legal policy.
We hope articles and essays submitted for this issue will include issues like local taxes and subsidies related to sports stadiums, the long-term effects on Olympic host countries, the differences in impact between cities and suburban locales of this sports-related infrastructure, and much more. The Journal is seeking a variety of perspectives on this topic, noting the costs of benefits financing, constructing, maintaining, and, if necessary, disposing of these enormous projects. We will accept proposals and outlines on this topic, and are seeking both essays over 5,000 words as well as articles over 10,000 words. One-page abstracts are due by August 12, 2024, and we would expect to receive first drafts around September 20, 2024.
